SEF’s Art Masterpiece Program
Started in 2014, the “Art Masterpiece” experiential learning program introduces children in grades K-5 to artists and great works of art. Children learn about famous artists’ styles, their preferred art mediums, and the iconic works they have created in the context of their culture and period. Parents volunteer as “art guides” to provide a short lesson, then lead the children through a fun and engaging discovery project allowing them to express their own artistic talents.
Artists, typically four per year, have included Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, Patience Brewster, Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miró, Rembrandt, Grandma Moses, Salvador Dalí, Georgia O’Keeffe and Marc Chagall, among others.
The Skaneateles Education Foundation provides funding for the artist-inspired art supplies required for the in-class art projects. This is a powerful and inspiring opportunity for parents, grandparents, and guardians to spend time in our elementary classrooms, sharing their time and talents with our young artists.
