Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Young, this year's 2024 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award Winner!
Jennifer L. Young MD (‘96) is a Urologist, Chair of the Department of Surgery, and the Vice President of the medical staff at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Northern Virginia. Dr. Young attended the College of Human Ecology at Cornell at Cornell University and earned her Bachelor of Science in 2000, in just three years. In 2004 Dr. Young graduated from Upstate Medical University at Syracuse and completed her general surgery internship at the University of California, San Francisco in 2005. She completed her urology residency at the University of California, Irvine in 2011 where she was trained by Dr. Ralph Clayman, the inventor and pioneer of laparoscopic urologic surgery, the predecessor of robotic surgery.
Dr. Young has many accolades to her name. As a high school student, she was accepted to the Skaneateles Rotary Exchange Program in Spain for a year where she gained fluency in Spanish. In the course of her career, she was named in the Top 100 Women of Loudoun County by the Loudoun Business Journal for 2016 and 2015. She is consistently named a Top Doctor by the Washingtonian magazine, Northern Virginia magazine, Virginia Living magazine and Virginia Business. She was selected for the Best of Leesburg Awards in the category of Doctor for five years in a row since 2019 and is in the 2023 Leesburg Business Hall of Fame.
Community service and giving of her knowledge and expertise has been part of Jennifer's operating procedure. She has served on the Inova Leadership Development program and Physician Wellness Committee for the Inova System. She had served on the Bylaws Committee, Peer Review Committee, Clinical Quality Council and Surgical Services Committee at Inova Loudoun Hospital as the Department of Surgery, Urology Section, Representative. She has served as a member of the Inova Loudoun Hospital Medical Roundtable Council. She sits on the Loudoun Medical Group Information Technology Committee.Dr. Young lives in northern Virginia with her husband and two children. She enjoys hiking, biking, yoga and spending time with her family.
