Music Guild Fund
In 2024, the Skaneateles Music Guild (SMG) and the Skaneateles Education Foundation (SEF) agreed to create the Skaneateles Music Guild Fund at SEF. The agreement allows the SMG to continue its mission of supporting music education programs for children in the Skaneateles Central School District without the challenges of administering a small nonprofit. The Guild also provides opportunities to advance our community's appreciation for music through performances and outreach events offered throughout the local community.

Giving Guidelines:
The Music Guild Fund (MGF) provides small, music-centric funding opportunities for students and
teachers of the Skaneateles Central Schools. Examples of needs that would be met by this Music
Guild Fund include, but are by no means limited to, helping students to participate in music trips,
paying application fees for music competitions, paying for private music lessons, providing small
scholarships during the school year and over the summer, and grants for material and equipment
outside of the school budget. Monies designated by donors for the MGF will be used per the giving
guidelines, according to the grant process, and with the approval of the MGF representative.
Grant Process:
-
A teacher seeking funds from the Music Guild Fund (MGF) fills out the Music Guild Fund Grant Application.
-
The application should be submitted to the SEF Executive Director electronically.
-
The SEF Executive Director will circulate the completed grant application to the MGF
-
representative and the SEF Programs & Grants committee. If the grant is $600 or less, the MGF representative may approve it from MG funds without further approval by the SEF Programs & Grants committee. The Board will be notified of any MG grants at the monthly meeting. If the grant is $601 or greater, it will follow the SEF grant procedure. The Programs & Grant committee and the MGF representative will discuss the grant jointly. Assuming there is an agreement to fund the grant, the committee and the MGF representative will determine the allocation of funds. (i.e. 50% MG/50% SEF). MGF funds may not be spent without approval from the MGF representative. The committee recommendation will then go to the full SEF Board for final approval at the monthly board meeting.
-
On approval, the SEF Executive Director will notify awardees and relevant administrators.
