Position: Executive Director

SEF Executive Director Job Description

​

The Executive Director of the Skaneateles Education Foundation is responsible for the organization's day-to-day operations. The Executive Director works to develop and grow the foundation and its programs, including organizational administration, fundraising from individuals, corporations, and foundations, promoting the organization to the Skaneateles community and interfacing with administrators, teachers, and students.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (15-20 HOURS/WEEK, 44 WEEKS/YEAR)
1. Financial Responsibilities

  • Designs and recommends annual budget for Board approval

  • In collaboration with the Operations Manager, manages internal accounting system and oversees annual budget

  • Manages the execution of annual tax filings and all 501(c)(3) compliance obligations

2. Fundraising Responsibilities

  • ï‚· In collaboration with the Board, designs comprehensive fundraising program, including short-term fundraising plan and long-range capital campaign

  • Meets with potential funders, alone or with Board members

  • Oversees and implements fundraising programs:

  1. Researches and identifies fundraising sources

  2. Authors and submits private and public grant applications

  3. Manages fundraising events

  4. Manages communications with donor base

3. Program Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Program & Grants Committee, reviews potential SEF awards, ensuring that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board

  • Works with teachers and school officials to innovate and customize specific programs

  • Interfaces with secondary and post-secondary educational stakeholders statewide

  • Reviews progress of awards given

  • Manages quality assessment of SEF programs

4. Marketing and Public Relations Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains relationships with leaders throughout the educational, business, political and non-profit communities

  • In collaboration with the Marketing Committee, designs and creates SEF marketing materials (updating as necessary) with the intent of generating awareness of the SEF, attracting donors and students

  • Manages development and updates of the SEF website

  • Manages development, production, and distribution of the foundation annual report

5. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Supports operations of the Board of Directors by advising and informing Board members, serving as liaison between the Board and staff

  • Preparing the board meeting agenda and supporting materials and providing them to the Board no later than 48 hours prior to each meeting

  • Drafts policies for the approval of the Board and prepares procedures to implement the organizational policies; reviews existing policies on an annual basis and recommends changes to the Board as appropriate

  • Ensures that donor and volunteer files are secretly stored, and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
